~*~ Nanking ~*~ In 1928, the Chinese Nationalist Govt. changed the capital of Peking, Beijing, to Nanking. The population had soared to more than one million people. Many of them were refugees fleeing from the Japanese army. On november 1937, after securing control of Shanghai, the Japanese moved in towards Nanking. On december, the Japanese troops launched an epic attack on Nanking. And in the next six weeks, the forces engaged in a huge mass execution, which was soon to be known as the Nanking Massacre. It was said that some 300,000 Chinese people were killed, and 20,000 women were raped. During the Nanking Massacre, the Japanese carried out a series of sick, cruel acts, including mass execution, raping, looting, and burning.
